Guardian ad Litem Foundation receives $10,000 grant from The League Club to provide beds for vulnerable children

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 3, 2019) – Guardian ad Litem Foundation, 20th Judicial Circuit, was awarded a $10,000 grant from The League Club to support its vital Beds for Kids initiative.Beds for Kids is a program that allows Guardian ad Litem volunteer advocates to request a new bed for Southwest Florida families who are willing to take in a vulnerable child, but lack the resources to provide a bed. Guardian ad Litem Foundation provides volunteer advocates who serve as a voice for children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned as they navigate the judicial, education and child welfare system.“Beds for Kids has delivered and assembled more than 2,300 beds in homes across Southwest Florida,” said Roxanne Dyer, executive director for the region’s Guardian ad Litem Foundation. “There are so many families willing to open their homes to a child in need, but they don’t always have a spare bed. This generous grant from The League Club will provide monetary assistance that enables us to purchase a warm, cozy bed to make these children feel welcome during a period of uncertainty in their lives.”Through its Community Trust Fund, The League Club recently issued $343,743 in grants to 35 local nonprofit organizations focused on education, hunger relief and health care. The League Club is a Naples-based nonprofit comprised of women who strive to strengthen communities through fellowship, education, volunteerism and philanthropy. The League Club has donated more than $4.5 million to nonprofit causes since its inception in 1986 through the Association of Junior Leagues International.“For over three decades, The League Club has strengthened this community through our philanthropic grants and volunteerism,” said President Charlene Barnette. “This year, our Commitment to Community is stronger than ever. We believe this is essential to human well-being in Collier and Lee counties. Working together with our members, supporters and business sponsors, we are able to make a difference in Collier and Lee counties.”Beds for Kids was founded in 2001 by Guardian ad Litem volunteer advocate Cynthia Shafer. It’s part of the Foundation’s Children’s Needs Program, which raises money to help pay expenses for children assigned to Guardian ad Litem for “extras” such as birthday parties, summer camps, sports participation or fun outings like a night at the arcade, bowling and theme park tickets. To help support the Children’s Needs Program, please visit VoicesForKids.org or call 239-245-7787.
