Guardian ad Litem Foundation to host inaugural ‘Superpower’ 5K race on Feb. 19

(Jan. 3, 2022) – The Guardian ad Litem Foundation, 20th Judicial Circuit, will host its newest fundraising event, “What’s your Superpower 5K Walk/Run & Kids Fun Run,” on Feb. 19 in Fort Myers.The event will be held on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College and feature a traditional 5K race for runners of all ages, as well as a children’s run and a virtual run for those unable to join the race in person.Lin-Mark Sports will be the official race timekeeper. The event coordinator is Alison Stone, who also serves on the foundation’s board of directors.“‘What’s your Superpower 5K Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run’ is designed for both competitive and casual runners, as well as walkers and families,” said Jessica Stanfield, executive director of the Guardian ad Litem Foundation. “It’s the foundation’s first 5K event, so we’re hoping to raise financial support and awareness about our programs and the children we represent.”The Guardian ad Litem Foundation recruits, trains and supports court-approved volunteer child advocates who represent abused, neglected and abandoned Southwest Florida youth as they navigate the judicial, education and child welfare systems. The foundation also provides financial assistance to help meet a child’s basic and developmental needs, including the Children’s Needs Program that provides “extras” like birthday parties, tutoring, summer camp programs, movie tickets and registration fees for clubs and sports. The foundation represents children in Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.Registration is required for all participants. The cost is $30 per person for those ages 13 and older, and includes an event T-shirt and race-day snacks. Children 12 and under are free and will receive a medal. Proceeds from the event will support the Guardian ad Litem Foundation’s programs and services.Participants must pick up their race packets in advance from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 or Friday, Feb. 18 at Fleet Feet Fort Myers, 13499 S. Cleveland Ave., Suite 209. Race-day check-in begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19 at FSW Parking Lot 12 behind the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. Pets are prohibited, but service dogs are permitted along the race route.Sponsorship opportunities are still available, including the coveted presenting sponsorship, as well as tables for nonprofit and business partners.
